Several years back we created a sculpture modeled on an iconic woodcut by the legendary Japanese artist Hokusai.

The design became one of our more popular pieces and requests began coming in for custom versions of the design.

One such request was to make a wave out of amber rather than pacific blue.

Amber waves are a natural evolution because most of the amber in the world today is fished out of the Baltic Sea.

The Baltic region is home to the largest known deposit of natural amber. About 80% of the world’s amber is found there.

Baltic amber dates back 44 million years and its estimated that Eocene era forests produced millions of tons of the material.

Baltic amber contains a variety of extinct plant species and animals including the most species-rich fossil insect fauna ever discovered.
