One of the transcendent qualities of glass is its ability to transmit, refract, reflect and divide light.

This quality is shared with water in its liquid state.

The Arctic Pool vase contains images observed in pools of water when light breezes create ripples across the surface.

The ripples act as light concentrating lenses that produce hypnotic patterns which play along the bottom.

These are some of my favorite patterns in nature, like the center of a sunflower or the interior of a nautilus shell.

Ice blue glass is first laid down in a pattern on a steel marver then picked up onto a gather of molten clear.

After fusing the color to the clear we heat the upper portion of the design and sweep the image by hand into the shoulder and neck of the vase.
