By double layering transparent and opaque colors over a brilliant white core we created a sculptural tribute to the great cathedral windows of Europe.

When you review the modeling images below on the left, remember these magnificent glass constructions were created more than 1,000 years ago.

Window glass has been around since the 1st century AD but it was difficult to produce and therefore rare.

It wasn’t until the early 11th century that German artists created the first blown sheets of colored glass, which were later imitated by the Venetians in the 13th century.

These flat sheets of colored glass were carefully ground to shape and joined using lead strips in a technique called glazing.

Sheet glass techniques made window glass accessible for large numbers of buildings, inns and private homes, which often featured historic scenes and coats of arms.

But it is the awe inspiring cathedrals and royal palaces of Europe which stand apart as the technological, artistic marvels of their age.
