Electric Blue Athena
$80.00 – $332.00
We received a request to create a special glass with the colors of Crater Lake, a two hour’s drive from our studio in Southern Oregon.
The specifications called for a glass with the electric blue color of the water in the famous caldera.
We visit the Crater year round and few experiences match touring the rim in winter on snow machines.
In 5700 BC, Klamath people witnessed the eruption of Mount Mazama as it collapsed losing 3,500 ft. in height.
The resulting caldera was used by them in vision quests on the vertical walls. Those who survived were considered great spirits.
On June 12, 1853 explorers discovered the indigo caldera which they named “Deep Blue Lake.”
The “Old Man of the Lake” is a full-sized tree that has bobbed vertically in the lake for more than a century.
It is the deepest US lake at 1,943 ft, seventh deepest in the world and averages 44 feet of snow per year.
