Advance planning and shop preparation are mandatory before attempting a design of this magnitude. The design requires a myriad of techniques and a specially trained team of artists.

Manipulating exceptionally large gathers of heavy molten glass, while fusing multiple design elements and maintaining symmetry is a high liability undertaking.

The design is inspired by an experience I had in college on the top floor of the research library at UCSB.

Several huge waterspouts had formed in the bay just off Goleta Beach and were moving onshore as long shafts of water spiraled up into the clouds.

Seeing the spouts up close revealed a soft textured main body interleaved with solid twisting bands that swayed beneath the funnel shaped clouds.

It was incredible.
