Lake Turkana in the Great Rift Valley of Kenya, is the world’s largest permanent desert lake known as the Jade Sea from its deep greenish blue, aquamarine color.

2 to 3 million years ago, the lake was a large fertile center for early humans.

In 1972 Richard Leakey discovered a 2 million year old skull there and in 1984, Turkana Boy, a nearly complete Homo Erectus skeleton.

More recently Meave Leakey has discovered a 3.5 million year old skull by the shores of the beautiful Jade Sea of Kenya.
